The Golf Swing Slice

As any golfer will tell you a golf swing slice can happen at any time, but what can you do if it seems to happen all the time?

I am sure we all have experienced the following at some point in our game where one minute we are hitting consistent shots on to the fare way, and then every time you hit the ball you slice it. To make matters worse your golf swing slice seems to get worse with each shot.

What’s the answer?

Well if you are in the middle of a round of golf there are a few things you can do to try correcting a slice.

One of the first things to do once your golf swing slice happens, is check the face of your club, and ensure there are no flaws or damage to the face of the club.

If you are finding that your golf swing slice is happening more when using a driver, you have to realise that the driver is a pretty unforgiving club and it will magnify any tiny imperfections to do with the your swing. If there is some problem with your driver you could be better off changing to a different club to tee off with to minimise the slice.

Try to ensure that you are using the correct grip and that you are standing using the correct posture when you address the ball. It is very easy to let our concentration slip when playing a round, especially with friends.

If these solutions still do not improve your golf swing slice then the only thing you can do to try to rescue some of your round, is to work with the slice and adjust your stance, and alignment with the ball when taking a shot.

When you can find some practice time you can then take your time and analyse what you may be doing wrong to cause your golf swing slice. You need to go through the following steps before opting for expensive extra coaching from your golf club pro, or investing in a new driver.

There are certain aspect to your swing that can cause you to start slicing the ball. There are 4 areas you need to look at to begin with, which are,

Your Grip

Your Posture

Your Alignment, and

Your set up

If you are getting any of these things wrong it could be throwing the other 3 out of sync which will be magnified when using a driver.

The slice can be corrected and as long as you are willing to spend a bit of time working out what is causing your golf swing slice you should be able to correct what you are doing wrong, and eliminate the slice from your game.
