The slice is a very common problem amongst golfers and once you have an understanding of what causes the golf swing slice you are in a better position to correct it.

The slice is caused by the face of the club looking to the right of the direction the club is moving through at the time of impact with the ball. This causes clockwise spin on your ball making it curve to the right. Usually the club will also be travelling to the left greatly increasing the angle of the glancing contact even more.

First though you need to distinguish between a slice and a hook shot. If you are right handed and the ball is going to the right when you hit it, that is known as a slice. If the ball is moving too far to the left then this is a hook.

So what can you do to cure your golf swing slice shot?

You need to get a feel for squaring the club and there is a simple exercise you can do to achieve this.

You need to use a 5 or 6 iron and hit the ball softly so that it travels no more than 30 yards. You have to make sure that you square the face on the shot so that the ball goes straight. Once you can achieve this you need to use the same club and hit the ball so it is travelling about 100 yards. Don’t forget to make sure that the club face squares up with each shot and that the ball is moving straight.

The other way to cure your golf slice is to take lessons form your club’s golf pro, but that can become very costly. The cheaper alternative to cure your golf swing slice is to go back to basics and concentrate on your swing. You can use a DVD or video such as The Simple Golf Swing by David Nevogt

The Simple Golf Swing dvd will take you through the correct process for giving you the best golf swing you could hope for.

improving your golf swing slice

Starting with making sure you have the correct stance is the first step in making sure you do not slice your shot.

By taking you slowly through having the correct stance you can pause the DVD as you go through each stage of having the correct set up.

Not only will you be able to learn the correct way to maximise your swing through the DVD, you will also be able to refer back to it if you need to in the future

The correct swing will prevent your golf swing slice

The video then moves you through the whole movement of your golf swing allowing you to correct your swing and your follow through.

If your swing is not smooth this can cause or highlight a slice shot and no ammount of over compensation will correct your golf swin slice. Going back to the basics does not take that much time to do, and by making sure your golf swing is smooth and natural you will also help to eliminate your slice shot.

Correcting a slice can be achieved mid way through a round of golf just by adjusting your stance so that you can compensate for the slice. Although this will give you a short term solution to your golf swing slice it will not cure it completely.

To rectify your golf swing and eliminate the slice you need to look at certain points of your swing

Grip:Your grip is something you may have taken for granted and allowed some bad habits to creep in. Your golf grip will be personal to you but, if your grip is wrong your wrists could turn during the downswing which will cause

your ball to slice off to the right.

Ensuring your grip is correct can help prevent a golf swing slice

You need to start with a good grip but one that also allows you to release the club properly through the impact of the club on the ball. Failure to allow this will mean that the club face is open on impact and will cause a golf swing slice.

Going back to basics and practicing gripping your club properly can have a very positive effect on correcting a slice.

Posture: You need to make sure that you are standing tall and without being stooped or bent over, and your chin needs to be up off your chest. You need to make sure the angle of your spine is straight as this will give you the freedom to swing you club freely and create a flatter shoulder turn.

Alignment: It is very easy to become lazy and adopt a bad stance. There is an easy way you can practice your stance by using 2 golf clubs. The first club needs to be laid on the ground along your toe line. The second one needs to be in front of the ball pointing towards your target.

The 2 clubs need to be parallel, if they are not, then you will be in a stance that creates an open stance which will create the slice shot.

The Set Up: To create a proper swing you need to make sure that your right side is lower than your left. All you need to do is tilt your spine slightly to the right at set up. This will cause your right shoulder to be lowered, which will allow you to get more weight in to your right side. This will give you the proper transfer of weight through your swing.

Most of these ways of correcting a slice can be practiced at home in your own back garden, but how do you know if you are doing it correctly?

One simple but very effective method is to have access to a good golfing manual or DVD and with The Simple Golf Swing by David Nevogt you get both.

The book concentrates on making sure your golf swing is correct which will also help to prevent a golf swing slice from

Having the correct swing will prevent a golf swing slice

developing. With the book stored on your computers hard drive you can easily print off the pages you need to take with you out to the garden or even to your course to refer to when you are practising.

The Simple Golf Swing also covers in great detail how to approach the ball and your actual swing as it moves through in to the follow through. Not only can it help prevent and cure a golf swing slice, you can learn how to get more distance from your golf swing.

You also get access to The Golf Swing training DVD which is like having your own golf coach with you at any time you choose!

By setting up a lap top in your garden you can have the DVD guide you as you practice your golf swing. You can even pause it at certain points to practice that step, before moving on to the next one.

So, before paying out good money to your golf clubs resident pro. for just one hour of coaching, you may want to consider having your own golf pro at your beck and call, at any time to suite you.

How to easily correct a slice mid way through a round of golf.

As any golfer will tell you a golf swing slice can happen at any time, but what can you do if it seems to happen all the time?

I am sure we all have experienced the following at some point in our game where one minute we are hitting consistent shots on to the fare way, and then every time you hit the ball you slice it. To make matters worse your golf swing slice seems to get worse with each shot.

What’s the answer?

Well if you are in the middle of a round of golf there are a few things you can do to try correcting a slice.

One of the first things to do once your golf swing slice happens, is check the face of your club, and ensure there are no flaws or damage to the face of the club.

If you are finding that your golf swing slice is happening more when using a driver, you have to realise that the driver is a pretty unforgiving club and it will magnify any tiny imperfections to do with the your swing. If there is some problem with your driver you could be better off changing to a different club to tee off with to minimise the slice.

Try to ensure that you are using the correct grip and that you are standing using the correct posture when you address the ball. It is very easy to let our concentration slip when playing a round, especially with friends.

If these solutions still do not improve your golf swing slice then the only thing you can do to try to rescue some of your round, is to work with the slice and adjust your stance, and alignment with the ball when taking a shot.

When you can find some practice time you can then take your time and analyse what you may be doing wrong to cause your golf swing slice. You need to go through the following steps before opting for expensive extra coaching from your golf club pro, or investing in a new driver.

There are certain aspect to your swing that can cause you to start slicing the ball. There are 4 areas you need to look at to begin with, which are,

Your Grip

Your Posture

Your Alignment, and

Your set up

If you are getting any of these things wrong it could be throwing the other 3 out of sync which will be magnified when using a driver.

The slice can be corrected and as long as you are willing to spend a bit of time working out what is causing your golf swing slice you should be able to correct what you are doing wrong, and eliminate the slice from your game.
